Michael Johnson, M.D., FHM

Michael Johnson PortraitA board-certified infectious disease physician with 20 years’ experience, Michael is committed to helping suffering people. Since 2001, he has worked at the Carolinas HealthCare System and is currently the central regional medical director for Carolinas Hospitalist Group. He previously served as the chief of medicine for Carolinas HealthCare System at both Mercy and Pineville hospitals. Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Davis and went on to medical school at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed both residency and fellowship training at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Inspired by mission trips to Haiti as a teenager, Michael helped found Bless Back Worldwide, an international medical mission serving people in Haiti and Nicaragua. Michael serves on its Haiti Clinic Advisory Committee and travels to Haiti frequently to supervise medical care. He is also a ruling elder at his family’s church in Matthews, North Carolina. Michael is married to Andrea Johnson, M.D. and they have five children, three biological sons and two daughters adopted from China and Ethiopia.
