Health and Hope in Africa
The flesh-eating disease Buruli ulcer attacks children and adults, leaving open wounds and causing disabilities.
Working through our partner hospital in the DR Congo, American Leprosy Missions provides treatment for Buruli ulcer and invests in the health of the surrounding communities.
The Buruli ulcer hospital ward used to be full of young children with horrible wounds. Today, thanks to you, there are only a few patients — cases are now being caught early, out in the community.
Your support enables experts from the hospital to go train health professionals throughout the region. This spring, 65 doctors, nurses, lab technicians and health workers were taught to recognize the signs of Buruli ulcer and properly treat the disease.
With better training, health professionals can diagnose and treat Buruli ulcer quickly — and prevent lifelong disabilities.
Thank you for sparing children and adults the agony of long hospital stays, disability and stigma.
Thank you bringing health and hope to the people of the DR Congo.
