The International Textbook of Leprosy, sponsored by American Leprosy Missions, is now available online at It draws on the expertise of dozens of medical and scientific experts in the field of leprosy, and is edited by the Director of the National Hansen’s Disease Program, David M. Scollard, M.D., Ph.D. and Adjunct Professor of Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology, LSU School of Medicine, Thomas P. Gillis, Ph.D.

The textbook contains 10 sections comprised of 34 chapters, all covering the clinical aspects and basic sciences related to Hansen’s Disease.

“Today the diagnosis and treatment of leprosy is often impeded by lack of knowledge and awareness in the healthcare community,” says Gillis. “This new, online textbook attempts to address this deficiency. It is dedicated to the physicians and health workers caring for their first patient with leprosy, and to all of those in the research community who have encountered some of the fascinating scientific aspects of leprosy and wish to learn more.”
